  • Solo mining alt / zetacoin on knc rig - anyone able to help?

I want to mine a little zetacoin with my knc rig.

On my windoze computer, I've set up zetacoin-qt.exe as a server. I run
    cgminer -o 127.0.0.1:17335 -u username -p password
and it starts to mine just fine using two gpus. Mined two blocks, so totally working.

So my knc is on the same network, at
    192.168.1.YYY

But when I input 192.168.1.YYY:17335 -u username -p password into cgminer on my rig, I get this error:

"Pool X slow/down or URL or credentials invalid"

    I've got
    rpcallowip=192.168.1.*

in my zetacoin.conf, so it seems to me I should be able to connect?
It could be a firewall or some kind of local area network issue - anyone got any ideas? Thx

can we actually mine any other coins with our asic's?

You can mine any SHA256 coin.

Yes, DFlynn you can mine any SHA256 as BitBuster says. Joining a pool is the easiest. I want to set up solo mining though, would appreciate advice on my problem from anyone who's already set it up successfully.

Thanks, but I've done that all. It could be something to do with
Ensure that your firewall does not block bitcoin-qt
            or in my case zetacoin-qt
But as I had it working with gpu's, can't see how the firewall would be blocked?

Does zetacoin-qt support GBT? If not, you should be using a stratum proxy. There's no way getwork will keep up with a modern ASIC miner.

It doesn't even connect to get a taste of that asic juice, so unsure if this is the problem. cgminer is hardly so intelligent it's worked out that it would fail before even trying?

Works perfect with 2 gpus and localhost. It's probably going to be something stupid like ports or firewalls or magic elf's.

                  Try port forwarding in router.

Did that. When zetacoin-qt.exe is running as a server, I can see port 17333 is open from an open port finder.

No matter what I do, I keep getting
"Pool X slow/down or URL or credentials invalid"
                      on both cgminer & bfgminer

I admit defeat, no idea how to get this working.

Unless it's a typo, you are pointing the cgminer to the KnC miner address. You need to point the cgminer on the KnC to the address of the machine that is running the coin daemon.

xyzzy099, you are a GENIUS! I knew it was going to be something stupid I'd done wrong. Indeed, I was pointing to the knc rig, not the computer with the coin daemon running. Working now, THANKS FOR YOUR HELP

P.S. If you mine zetacoin, pm me your address and I'll send you 1000 as thanks.
